I love the proportions \u2013 it just feels right on my GFX 50R body. It\u2019s light, well-proportioned and nicely balanced. The lens comes with a hood which doesn\u2019t protrude too much, helping keep everything discreet and low key. It feels reassuringly chunky and solid and able to withstand the rigours of life on the street. Overall, the form factor is ideal and just about right for street shooting.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp_flexbox col2\">\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_03-300x200.jpg?width=300&#038;height=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-117235\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_04-300x200.jpg?width=300&#038;height=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-117236\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><p>So what else makes this lens a good choice for street? First of all, it\u2019s weather sealed; it\u2019s great not to have to worry about water ingress when you\u2019re out shooting in all conditions.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_05.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_05.jpg\" alt=\"Image\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><p>Then there\u2019s the ability to set the aperture ring to the \u2018C\u2019 (command) position, using one of the command dials instead of the lens ring to set the aperture, which is great when you need to make fast adjustments. Most of my shooting is done in aperture priority but if I need to change to shutter speed priority I can just flick the aperture ring to the \u2018A\u2019 position (which it locks into). Whatever the setting, the exposure values appear in the viewfinder or on the LCD screen, which is useful.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp_flexbox col2\">\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_06-300x199.jpg?width=300&#038;height=199\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-117238\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"> \u00a0<\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_07-300x200.jpg?width=300&#038;height=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-117239\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"> \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><p>The aperture ring itself is satisfsyingly \u2018clicky\u2019 and tactile \u2013 and it\u2019s reassuringly stiff so it\u2019s difficult to change the setting by mistake; you can set the aperture value in 1\/3 steps, which I find helpful, particularly in tricky metering conditions. The focus ring is smooth and nicely damped (and therefore not prone to moving by accident) \u2013 great for zone focusing.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp_flexbox col2\">\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_08-300x200.jpg?width=300&#038;height=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-117240\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_09-300x200.jpg?width=300&#038;height=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-117241\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"> \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><p>With a 62mm filter thread, it\u2019s compatible with lots of my existing filters and rings \u2013 another added bonus.<\/p>\n<p>But what about that angle of view? Is it too \u2018long\u2019 for street? No, not at all, and I found that I very quickly warmed to it. The angle of view is pretty much what the human eye sees, which I think lends a \u2018real life\u2019 perspective to the final image.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp_flexbox col2\">\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_10-300x184.jpg?width=300&#038;height=184\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"184\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-117242\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_11-300x200.jpg?width=300&#038;height=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-117243\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"> \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"wp-caption\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_12.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_12.jpg\" alt=\"Image\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><p>In terms of performance, and whilst this isn\u2019t a \u2018technical\u2019 review, I must say that centre to edge sharpness is good, as is contrast across the aperture range. At the widest aperture, F3.5, there\u2019s a pleasing amount of bokeh, making this lens a good choice for street portraits. The lens focuses quickly and quietly, even in low light \u2013 another big plus for me.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp_flexbox col2\">\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_13-300x200.jpg?width=300&#038;height=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-117245\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_14-300x200.jpg?width=300&#038;height=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-117246\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"> \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><p>A lot of what I shoot on the streets is more what you would call urban landscape photography \u2013 where the buildings and the wider environment take centre stage and where people are less significant \u2013 and I found myself achieving the right composition in-camera rather than needing to crop in post-production<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp_flexbox col2\">\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_15-300x200.jpg?width=300&#038;height=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-117247\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_16-300x200.jpg?width=300&#038;height=200\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-117248\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"> \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"wp-caption\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_17.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/gf50mm_brian-lloyd-duckett_17.jpg\" alt=\"Image\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><p>This is a really versatile lens which, for shooting on the streets, is a perfect match for the GFX50R (or 50S) and the angle of view is a great compromise between the 45mm and 63mm alternatives.
