One that smells of celluloid, gunpowder, and frozen time.<br>Since I was a child, Sergio Leone\u2019s cinema taught me how to look. His wide shots, his tense silences, his characters made of dust and scars. Especially \u201cThe Good, the Bad and the Ugly\u201d, with its stylized violence, its dry humor\u2014almost castellano, like myself\u2014and that final duel as a liturgy of the frame.<br>I returned to the place where that film\u2014and many others\u2014were shot : Tabernas, Almer\u00eda. To see if anything still lingered. Even just the echo. In the middle of July, in the desert, with no concessions. I brought only the new FUJIFILM X-E5 and the FUJINON XF23mmF2.8 R WR. A way of reclaiming the human in a world of artificial intelligence that smooths and perfects everything. As if the camera were an extension of the body. I used Velvia like someone playing an old song to remember.<br>Saturated colors, harsh contrasts, unapologetic intensity. With Velvia, I\u2019m not seeking truth, but its most exaggerated, wounded version. The world in Velvia looks like a movie set\u2026 but one that still breathes.<br>I walked the badlands and the false towns. The theme parks and the remnants of legendary shoots. And there it all was: the dust, the heat, the wind, the silence with a knife in it. The sets, half-defeated by the sun, still standing like old actors waiting for one last take. viel reisen. Dann werde ich anfangen, in meinen Kontaktb\u00f6gen zu reisen.\u201c<\/em><\/em><br><em>\u2014 Josef Koudelka<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00dcber Jahrzehnte hinweg waren Reisen und Fotografieren f\u00fcr Josef Koudelka untrennbar miteinander verbunden. Seine Arbeit entstand aus kontinuierlicher Bewegung \u2013 \u00fcber L\u00e4ndergrenzen hinweg, durch Landschaften und wechselnde politische Realit\u00e4ten. Was von diesen Reisen blieb, sind nicht nur fertige Fotografien, sondern umfassende Werkzusammenh\u00e4nge: Kontaktb\u00f6gen, Negative, Abz\u00fcge, Notizb\u00fccher, Karten, Zeitungen und pers\u00f6nliche Reisedokumente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Im Laufe der Zeit wuchs dieses Material zu einem umfangreichen Archiv an, das mehr als ein halbes Jahrhundert fotografischer Arbeit umfasst und bis in die sp\u00e4ten 1950er-Jahre zur\u00fcckreicht. Heute ist dieses Archiv selbst zu einem eigenst\u00e4ndigen Raum geworden \u2013 einem Ort, an dem vergangene Reisen erneut nachvollzogen, neu betrachtet und weiter erschlossen werden k\u00f6nnen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dieses Archiv zu bewahren bedeutet mehr als nur Bilder zu sichern. Es bedeutet, die vollst\u00e4ndige visuelle Information der Originale zu erhalten: feinste Details, tonale Abstufungen, Farbzusammenh\u00e4nge sowie die physische Beschaffenheit jedes einzelnen Objekts. Nur unter diesen Voraussetzungen k\u00f6nnen zuk\u00fcnftige Generationen das Werk in der von Koudelka intendierten Weise erfahren \u2013 als eine Reise durch die Bilder selbst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diese Perspektive bildete den Ausgangspunkt f\u00fcr die Digitalisierungsinitiative der Josef Koudelka Foundation. Das Archiv umfasst eine au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnliche Bandbreite an Materialien \u2013 von 35mm- und Panorama-Negativen \u00fcber fotografische Abz\u00fcge und gebundene Notizb\u00fccher bis hin zu gerahmten Arbeiten hinter Glas und gro\u00dfformatigen Postern. Die Digitalisierung dieser Vielfalt erforderte einen Ansatz, der h\u00f6chsten archivischen Standards entspricht und zugleich flexibel genug ist, um auf sich ver\u00e4ndernde Anforderungen reagieren zu k\u00f6nnen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Um dieses Gleichgewicht zwischen Pr\u00e4zision und Anpassungsf\u00e4higkeit zu erreichen, ben\u00f6tigte die Foundation eine L\u00f6sung, die kompromisslose Bildqualit\u00e4t \u00fcber alle Formate hinweg liefert \u2013 ohne das Archiv in ein starres technisches Schema zu zwingen, sondern sich den jeweiligen Anforderungen anzupassen. Das Setup wurde so konzipiert, dass es den spezifischen Anforderungen des Archivs gerecht wird, anstatt einen festen technischen Prozess auf das Material aufzuerlegen.<br><br>Die Foundation arbeitet t\u00e4glich mit Museen, Verlagen, Grafikdesignern, Galerien sowie internationalen Partnern wie Magnum Photos zusammen. Entsprechend vielf\u00e4ltig sind die Anforderungen an die Reproduktion \u2013 von hochaufl\u00f6senden Scans einzelner Filmkornstrukturen bis hin zu gro\u00dfformatigen Reproduktionen f\u00fcr Ausstellungen und Installationen im \u00f6ffentlichen Raum. Eine pr\u00e4zise und originalgetreue Wiedergabe ist dabei von zentraler Bedeutung.<br><br>Im Zentrum des Systems steht die GFX100 II, kombiniert mit den Objektiven GF55mmF1.7 R WR und GF120mmF4 R LM OIS WR Macro. Diese Kombination erm\u00f6glicht die erforderliche optische Pr\u00e4zision und Flexibilit\u00e4t, um unterschiedlichste Vorlagen mit konstant hoher Bildqualit\u00e4t zu digitalisieren.<br><br>Hochwertige LED-Lichtpanels mit hohem CRI-Wert gew\u00e4hrleisten eine exakte Farbwiedergabe. Ein motorisiertes Reprostativ erm\u00f6glicht pr\u00e4zise und reproduzierbare Positionierung, w\u00e4hrend ein Fu\u00dfpedal den Aufnahmeprozess effizient unterst\u00fctzt. Die Steuerung erfolgt \u00fcber Tethering-Software mit direkter Bild\u00fcbertragung, wodurch ein kontrollierter und effizienter Workflow entsteht. Farbtargets und spezialisierte Software sorgen f\u00fcr standardisierte und reproduzierbare Ergebnisse.<br><br>In dieser Konfiguration fungiert das System als High-End-Reproduktionsplattform, die h\u00f6chste archivische Anforderungen in Bezug auf Aufl\u00f6sung, Farbgenauigkeit, Tonwertwiedergabe und geometrische Pr\u00e4zision erf\u00fcllt \u2013 bei gleichzeitiger Flexibilit\u00e4t eines Mit einer Farbtiefe von 16 Bit und einem Dynamikumfang von \u00fcber 14 Blendenstufen werden selbst subtile \u00dcberg\u00e4nge in Schatten und Lichtern pr\u00e4zise erfasst \u2013 eine zentrale Voraussetzung f\u00fcr die Digitalisierung fotografischer Negative und Abz\u00fcge. This technique really shows off Velvia\u2019s contrast by dipping the SHADOWS to black in dynamic scenes, accentuating the colourful subject matter. It&#8217;s thinking differently. It&#8217;s going back to the essence. And contrast, when used well, is not just a visual tool, it&#8217;s a way of narrating your own reality. That&#8217;s why I like to add a little more contrast to the ACROS+ R base. In my FS RECIPE, I apply +1 to the HIGHLIGHTS and SHADOWS. I like black and white photos to retain a certain memory of the red filter, so I give the ACROS a slight warm deviation. The harsh midday light becomes intense strokes. The shadows of a doorway become mysterious. The contrast provided by the red filter enhances every shot, every texture, and gives each photo a more powerful volume. Just look through the viewfinder, frame, and shoot. The photo is finished, and when you take the photos off the memory card, they are ready to be viewed, with no need for further adjustments. Personally, I like photos with a certain character. I don&#8217;t need perfection; I need them to convey feelings. This time, looking at black and white and capturing so much richness in the shades of gray made me feel like I was shooting with a film camera. Sein Weg hinter die Kamera begann jedoch eher unspektakul\u00e4r: als pragmatische Entscheidung.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201e2009 habe ich meinen Master in Marketing an der Universit\u00e4t Ume\u00e5 abgeschlossen\u201c, erz\u00e4hlt er. \u201eZur\u00fcck in Vancouver suchte ich einen Job. Doch f\u00fcr das, was ich wollte, war ich zugleich \u00fcberqualifiziert und zu unerfahren \u2013 eine denkbar schlechte Kombination. Ich schlug mich mit Teilzeitjobs durch, bis die ersten Auftr\u00e4ge f\u00fcr Portr\u00e4tfotos kamen: bares Geld f\u00fcr ein paar Bilder. Diese einfache Rechnung brachte mich dazu, die Fotografie ernst zu nehmen.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heute z\u00e4hlt Cole Roberts \u2013 nach Jahren voller Erfolge und Auszeichnungen \u2013 zu den f\u00fchrenden Hochzeitsfotografen der Welt. Seine unaufdringliche Bildsprache zeugt dabei von bemerkenswerter Bescheidenheit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201eIch kenne meine St\u00e4rken und meine Grenzen\u201c, sagt er. \u201eMan sollte sein Handwerk beherrschen, sich nicht gr\u00f6\u00dfer machen, als man ist, und authentisch bleiben. Statt sich in den Vordergrund zu dr\u00e4ngen, nahm er die Rolle eines unauff\u00e4lligen Gastes ein. \u201eIch bin ein Fotograf, der auf einer Hochzeit ist, ohne wie ein Hochzeitsfotograf zu wirken\u201c, wie er es beschreibt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dieser Ansatz war entscheidend, denn Hochzeitsfotografie galt damals oft als kitschig und vorhersehbar. Als ihm klar wurde, dass er seinen eigenen Weg gehen konnte, fand er zu seinem Stil: \u201eDie Bilder sollen das Paar und seinen Tag zeigen, nicht mich.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sein Stil basiert auf einer klaren Haltung: \u201eIch halte den Tag des Paares fest, nicht mein eigenes Ego\u201c, erkl\u00e4rt Cole. \u201eDiese Fotos geh\u00f6ren eindeutig dem Paar. Die Bilder erz\u00e4hlen von ihnen und ihrem Tag. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Hochzeit, nicht die Fotografie. Dort kam der Kontakt zustande. Trotzdem blieb ich dabei, denn die Bildqualit\u00e4t war herausragend.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cole verfolgte die technische Entwicklung der Serie aufmerksam. \u201eAls die <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fujifilm-x.com\/de-de\/products\/cameras\/gfx100rf\/\">FUJIFILM GFX100RF<\/a> auf den Markt kam, mit meiner Lieblingsbrennweite fest verbaut, einem kompakteren Geh\u00e4use und den herausragenden Mittelformat-Dateien, war mir sofort klar: Das ist meine Traumkamera!\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die GFX100RF kombiniert einen 102-Megapixel-Sensor mit Fujifilms schnellem X-Prozessor 5. Heute denke ich vor dem Ausl\u00f6sen bewusst \u00fcber den Bildausschnitt nach. Und setze ihn direkt in der Kamera um. Die M\u00f6glichkeit, perfekte JPEGs direkt in der Kamera zu erzeugen, hat meinen Blick auf Bildausschnitte grundlegend ver\u00e4ndert.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ein besonderes Highlight ist f\u00fcr ihn der digitale Telekonverter der Kamera, der in Kombination mit der festen Brennweite neue Ausschnitte erm\u00f6glicht. \u201eMit einem Hebel an der Kamerafront wechsle ich blitzschnell zwischen 35, 45, 63 und 80 mm. Der Sensor beschneidet dabei den Bildausschnitt entsprechend\u201c, erkl\u00e4rt Cole. \u201eBevor ich die Kamera nutzte, hielt ich das f\u00fcr eine Spielerei und bezweifelte die Bildqualit\u00e4t. Doch ich lag falsch: Diese Funktion setzt Kreativit\u00e4t frei und gibt mir das Gef\u00fchl, ein Bild bewusst zu gestalten, statt einfach nur ein Foto zu machen.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hinzu kommen Fujifilms legend\u00e4re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fujifilm-x.com\/de-de\/products\/film-simulation\/\">Filmsimulationen<\/a>. \u201eIn einer einzigen Session wechsle ich jetzt zwischen verschiedenen Looks, experimentiere mit Seitenverh\u00e4ltnissen und nutze unterschiedliche Brennweiten. Sie merken nur, dass ich nicht mit einem klobigen Objektiv direkt vor ihrem Gesicht stehe, mehr f\u00e4llt ihnen zun\u00e4chst nicht auf.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die eigentliche Begeisterung zeigt sich dann Wochen sp\u00e4ter, wenn die Paare ihre Alben in den H\u00e4nden halten: \u201eUnsere Fotos wirken irgendwie anders als die unserer Freunde, sagen sie, wissen aber nicht genau, warum\u201c, berichtet Cole und erkl\u00e4rt: \u201eDer Unterschied liegt in den Details, die auch in gro\u00dfen Vergr\u00f6\u00dferungen erhalten bleiben. Mittelformatdateien enthalten schlicht mehr Bildinformationen.
