Want to fit more in your frame? Discover the range of wide-angle optics for the X Series and GFX System

Wide-angle lenses invite you to see the world differently. By expanding your field of view, they make it possible to include more of a scene – more sky, more context, more atmosphere. In doing so, they encourage a more immersive way of telling visual stories. Offering excellent coverage for sweeping landscapes, dramatic architecture, interiors, group photos and video work, wide-angle optics are incredibly expressive tools to have in your photography or filmmaking kit.

They’re also remarkably versatile. While wide-angle lenses are a natural fit for genres like landscape and astrophotography, they’re just as useful for travel, documentary and vlogging, where space is often limited and context matters. Whether you’re working with the compact X Series or expansive GFX System, Fujifilm’s wide-angle lineup has options to help broaden your horizons and make images that feel open, dynamic and full of life.

At their widest settings, wide-angle lenses create striking, almost exaggerated perspectives. By increasing the apparent distance between foreground, subject and background, they add depth and drama to images – ideal for bold landscapes, architectural compositions or creative video sequences that draw the viewer into the scene.

Less extreme wide-angle lenses behave more subtly. They share the natural feel of a standard lens while fitting more into the frame. This makes them a staple choice for landscape photographers, as well as a practical option for interiors, group shots and everyday storytelling. Lenses with larger maximum apertures are particularly appealing to astrophotographers, allowing more light to reach the sensor for cleaner night skies and star-filled scenes.

It’s worth noting that the very widest focal lengths can introduce noticeable distortion at close distances, which is rarely flattering for tight portraits. However, the longer wide-angle options featured here work beautifully for environmental portraits, placing subjects in context while maintaining a natural sense of proportion.

Ultra wide-angle vs standard wide-angle lenses

There’s a significant difference between ultra wide-angle optics and their more restrained counterparts – and understanding this distinction can help you choose the right tool for your work.

Lenses with full-frame equivalent focal lengths of around 12-24mm are considered ultra wide-angle. These are specialist optics capable of delivering dramatic perspectives. They’re perfect for architecture, interiors and expansive landscapes, but their distinctive look can be quite niche – it wouldn’t be recommended as the only lens you take on a trip or assignment.

Standard wide-angle lenses, typically covering the 24-35mm full-frame equivalent range, are far more utilitarian. They strike a balance between breadth and a natural perspective, making them suitable for everything from landscape and street photography to travel and everyday use. At the longer end of this range sits the classic 23mm focal length (35mm full-frame equivalent) – the same everyday perspective found on the iconic X100 series, including the FUJIFILM X100VI. It’s a viewpoint that feels instantly familiar, yet still offers the creative freedom that makes wide-angle lenses so compelling.

Read on for a look at every wide-angle lens in the current X Series and GFX System line-up.

GFX System wide-angle primes

GF23mmF4 R LM WR

Expansive, precise and built to showcase the strengths of large format photography, the FUJINON GF23mmF4 R LM WR delivers a wide-angle 18mm equivalent perspective for the GFX System. Ideal for landscapes, architecture and interiors, it renders scenes with striking clarity and minimal distortion, allowing straight lines and fine details to remain true from edge to edge. Despite its broad field of view, sharpness is consistent across the frame, giving images a strong sense of depth and realism.

This performance is driven by a sophisticated optical design featuring 15 elements in 12 groups, including aspherical, ED and Super ED lenses, alongside Nano GI coatings to suppress flare and ghosting. Fast, near-silent autofocus is powered by a linear motor, while a weather-resistant construction with nine seals ensures dependable use in demanding outdoor conditions.

GF30mmF3.5 R WR

A modern classic in large format terms, the FUJINON GF30mmF3.5 R WR delivers a 24mm full-frame equivalent angle of view – a perspective many photographers now consider the natural starting point for wide-angle work. Broad without feeling extreme, it captures the scale and atmosphere of a scene while remaining intuitive, making it well suited to landscapes, cityscapes and interiors.

Edge-to-edge sharpness fully exploits the resolving power of GFX sensors, reproducing fine detail and clean edges without slipping into a harsh or clinical look. Instead, images retain a gentle, lifelike quality that prioritises realism and emotional impact. Compact and well balanced on-camera, the lens encourages confident, everyday use. Weather-resistance and a fluorine-coated front element protect both the lens and your creative flow in challenging conditions.

GF45mmF2.8 R WR

Delivering a 35mm full-frame equivalent perspective of 36mm, the FUJINON GF45mmF2.8 R WR offers a naturally intuitive way to engage with the world around you. Its balanced field of view sits at the standard end of the wide-angle range, so it’s useful for documentary storytelling, travel, weddings and everyday image making.

Behind the modest proportions lies an optical design tuned to extract rich detail and vibrant colour from the GFX sensor. Nano GI coating suppresses ghosting and flare in high-contrast scenes, helping images retain clarity and depth even in challenging light. Compact with a weight of just 490g, it’s a lens you’ll happily leave on your camera, while weather-resistance down to -10°C ensures creativity never has to pause.
