X-S20: Travel x Hur Seongjun

It was unfortunate that I was the only one who remembered the overpowering moments that occurred in my everyday life.

I started taking photos for the first time with the thought, “I want to record and share these overwhelming moments.” That’s why I became interested in the profession of a documentarist, who records moments.

I’m Hur Seongjun, and I travel, photograph, and make documentaries.

John Grierson, the first documentary theorist to coin the term ‘documentary,’ defined it as a ‘creative treatment of actuality.’

When a fascinating point about a person’s actuality is discovered, a tool known as a camera can assist in creatively recording that point.

Throughout the 15-day trip, the Fujifilm X-s20 dependably performed this role.
It was always in my hands, from the small town where I went out for a morning walk to the 10-hour trek.
When you’re carrying a backpack and ascending a snowy mountain for hours, even the tiniest things might irritate you.
The X-s20 has never been a burden, thanks to its small size, light weight, and incongruously solid construction.
I was able to record the innumerable overpowering moments I encountered on my trip because of this.

It is commonly assumed that the smaller the camera, the greater the loss in image quality and device stability. However, the X-s20 provided sufficient commercially acceptable quality. Fujifilm’s images, in particular, have a richness and distinct texture that everyone should view at least once.

Even more surprising was the stability. Continuously taking high-definition photos and 10-bit high-frame videos puts a strain on the camera, and it is unavoidable to feel uneasy when doing this kind of work with a small camera.
Regardless of the circumstances or shooting intensity, the camera functioned reliably well. At least during the trip, I never felt uncomfortable because of the camera while shooting quite intensively with photos and videos. Many people overlook this aspect when shooting casually, but it surprised me.

I’d like to use this camera to make a feature-length documentary in the future.

This camera also features an intriguing function known as ‘V-log mode.’
It offers a number of options to help you deal with the many scenarios you may face while shooting.
It appeared to provide a very nice alternative to the many people who had fantastic ideas for videos but had to abandon them due to the difficulties of studying the camera. Above all, the video produced by using Fuji’s film emulation as it is provides excellent video without the need for further color grading, so I don’t believe there is a better starting point.

Technical things are challenging. You must devote time to studying.
As a result, I’ve seen several instances when people with outstanding ideas and perspectives gave up while studying, and the final product never saw the light of day.

In this manner, excellent photos and videos result from the combination of people with an appreciation for great things and technology.
Even if they lack technical knowledge, the X-s20 enables creators to concentrate completely on their work and get the necessary outcomes.
