CLASSIC Neg. – A Film Simulation That Captures Every Moment in My Own Way

I’m Fender, a photographer and content creator based in Bangkok, Thailand.

My work revolves around capturing life’s meaningful moments—whether it’s a quiet street scene, a fleeting smile, or the soft light at sunset. I believe photography is more than just freezing time; it’s about preserving the emotions, atmosphere, and stories behind each frame.

One of the tools that has truly shaped my style is Fujifilm’s Film Simulation—especially CLASSIC Neg., a tone that holds a special place in my creative process. I shoot it on my FUJIFILM X-T50 paired with the XF16-50mmF2.8-4.8 R LM WR, a versatile and lightweight setup that adapts beautifully to everything from sweeping street scenes to intimate portraits.

Why CLASSIC Neg. Speaks to Me

CLASSIC Neg. was designed to recreate the look and feel of negative film from the analog era, giving a soft yet distinctive color palette with unique depth. Its signature green and red tones create a nostalgic yet cinematic mood—perfect for telling stories that feel timeless.

Customizing for My Signature Look

Even though CLASSIC Neg. is beautiful right out of the camera, the default tones can feel a bit strong. I’ve refined it to be softer and more versatile—something I can use at any time of day. It works beautifully in bright sunlight and becomes truly magical during golden hour, when the warm tones melt perfectly into the scene.

I tweak a few key settings to make it truly mine:

* Reducing Contrast slightly, so the tones feel gentler and the details in shadows and highlights are preserved.
* Adding grain for a subtle, film-like texture that adds a sense of nostalgia.
* Boosting COLOR to make scenes feel more alive—especially skies and
skin tones—while keeping them natural.
* Lowering CLARITY and SHARPNESS for a dreamy, less clinical look that emphasizes mood over technical precision.

This customized setup works effortlessly whether I’m photographing locations or capturing portraits of both male and female models. These adjustments form my visual signature, and no matter where I shoot, people can recognize my style instantly.

Getting It Right In-Camera

One of the reasons I’ve fallen in love with CLASSIC Neg. is its ability to deliver “finished” images straight out of the camera. There’s little to no need for extra editing—what I capture is exactly what I envisioned.

This makes everyday photography so much easier. I can shoot and share instantly—whether it’s a quiet morning walk, a cozy coffee shop moment, or the golden-hour glow. The images are ready the moment I take them, preserving the emotion of that instant perfectly.

A Memory of a Day Gone By

When I look back at my CLASSIC Neg. images, they feel like flipping through a diary made of colors and light—A Memory of a Day Gone By. Each frame carries the sound of distant chatter, the warmth of late-afternoon sun, or the glow of neon lights in Yaowarat. These photos aren’t just about what I saw, but how it felt to be there.

More Than Just a Color Profile

What makes CLASSIC Neg. special to me isn’t just that it looks beautiful or is convenient—it’s that it preserves feeling. The greens convey calm and grounding, while the reds bring warmth and energy. Together, they turn fleeting scenes into stories worth keeping.

Fujifilm’s CLASSIC Neg. isn’t just a recreation of old negative film—it’s a creative tool that allows photographers to infuse their personality into every frame. With my own fine-tuned settings on the X-T50 and XF16-50mmF2.8-4.8 lens, I’m able to capture life in a way that feels warm, intimate, and true to my vision. When the tone you love is built right into your camera, it goes with you everywhere—ready to preserve every precious moment, in any place, at any time. And in those moments, each photograph becomes more than a picture—it transforms into a story, a treasured memory, and a part of who you are.
