Let\u2019s see how it\u2019s done.<\/p>\n<p>There are a few ways to approach focusing when you\u2019re shooting video. The simplest is to set the camera to Continuous AF and its Movie AF mode to Multi \u2013\u00a0that way, the camera picks out what to focus on by itself, based on what it considers to be the main subject. But if you want to have a little more input into where your camera is focusing, try switching the Movie AF mode to Area instead for more control.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>To do this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Press MENU OK and scroll to the MOVIE SETTING menu tab.<\/li>\n<li>Scroll down to the MOVIE AF MODE option and choose AREA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp_flexbox col2\">\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/vlcsnap-2020-03-26-11h49m23s403.jpg\" alt=\"&quot;Learn\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/vlcsnap-2020-03-26-11h49m28s995.jpg?width=581&#038;height=363\" alt=\"Learn photography with Fujifilm, Using Touchscreen Focusing with Video\" width=\"581\" height=\"363\"  data-recalc-dims=\"1\"><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><p>In Area mode, your camera only focuses on objects under the AF rectangle, just like when you\u2019re shooting stills in Single Point AF or Zone AF mode. You can move this around the frame to the right place using the camera\u2019s Focus Lever, if it has one, or its touchscreen. This latter approach is very convenient and gives you some creative options, too.<\/p>\n<p>To make sure you can use touchscreen focusing, ensure the right touchscreen mode is active. This is indicated by a small icon in the top right of the screen, which you can touch to cycle through the touchscreen modes: OFF &gt; SHOT &gt; AF. Do this as gently as possible to avoid physically wobbling the camera, which can be distracting. If you&#8217;re creating a video with one or more people in the frame, we&#8217;d suggest switching on Face\/Eye Detection focusing, so the camera automatically picks out faces in the frame.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/DSCF9370.jpg?width=1500&#038;height=1000\" alt=\"Learn photography with Fujifilm, Using Touchscreen Focusing with Video\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3875538 size-full\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\">\u00a9 Dan Westergren<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The visual effect caused by the camera refocusing during a shot is often called \u2018pull focusing\u2019 or \u2018rack focusing\u2019, and it\u2019s an excellent way of shifting a viewer\u2019s attention from one place to another.
