In analog film photography, it was common practice to make black & white photographs with an orange or red filter in front of the lens. By applying filters in digital photography, Film Simulations continue this practice to control the look of the image.
A green filter is ideal for portraits. It reduces red skin tones, and darkens lips, to help make the rest of the face look natural. Unlike film, it isn’t possible to check the effect in real time, digital filters are different. By using the EVF to pre-visualize the effect, the green filter can also be used for a broader range of subjects to balance the appearance of red, which sometimes appears bright and overexposed in black & white photography.
