Ma in passato ho usato ottiche che richiedono di chiudere il diaframma per ottenere prestazioni ottimali. Non avere questa restrizione \u00e8 un gran peso che ti togli dalle spalle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The starting point was REALA ACE. It\u2019s a deliberately understated, almost restrained simulation, and that\u2019s precisely what makes it relevant for urban photography. It doesn\u2019t force colours, doesn\u2019t dramatise scenes, and respects textures. In London, especially around the Southbank, everything is about surfaces: concrete, steel, glass, wet asphalt, low skies, reflections in the Thames. REALA ACE allows this reality to remain intact, without trying to correct it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The choice of settings was built around a simple idea: embracing the cold. The images were taken in the heart of the London winter, under grey, diffuse, often uniform light. By shifting the white balance toward cooler, bluish tones and reducing the presence of reds, I aimed to reproduce this visual temperature. The city appears more mineral, more distant, but also more truthful. The people photographed are not isolated from their environment; they are part of it. They move through the city in harmony with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Contrast plays an important role. London is a city of passage: people crossing, lingering briefly, then disappearing. By deepening the SHADOWS while keeping HIGHLIGHTS under control, shapes take precedence over details. Silhouettes stand out, bodies become graphic elements within the architecture. The DR200 setting is essential here: it makes it possible to retain both bright skies and fa\u00e7ades, as well as dark areas under bridges or around brutalist buildings, without crushing the image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colour is intentionally restrained. London is not devoid of colour, but it appears in touches: a coat, a sign, a reflection, something in motion. By reducing overall saturation, these elements naturally stand out when they appear. Strong COLOR CHROME adds density to mid-tones, gives weight to materials, and reinforces the sense of a \u201csolid\u201d city. Boosting the blues supports the overall atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I slightly reduced clarity to avoid an overly digital harshness. The city is already full of sharp angles and hard textures, there\u2019s no need to add more. This subtle softness helps preserve fluidity, especially in scenes with movement: hurried walkers, skaters, blurred passers-by. Grain is present, discreet, like a texture, to emphasize a natural city that is never perfectly smooth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of these images were taken around the Southbank: a space that is both open and brutal, where people coexist with architecture without necessarily stopping to engage with it. Skaters on concrete, passers-by beneath buildings, silhouettes lost in volumes too large for them. What interested me was the silent interaction between Londoners and their city: how they move through it, occupy it, and gradually make it their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Living in Vancouver, light and colour are often limited. muted skies, muted streets, concrete surfaces. Because of that, I\u2019ve learned to appreciate light and colour more, not less. When they appear, even subtly, they matter. Soft, di\ufb00used light has become something I pay attention to instinctively, not because it is impressive, but because oftentimes it is rare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fuji\ufb01lm cameras enabled that way of seeing for me. The experience of slowing down, framing deliberately, and committing to a moment trained my attention toward what already exists, rather than what needs to be chased. “CLOCKWISE ACE” came out of that habit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why I Built This FS Recipe<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I created “CLOCKWISE ACE” to support how I actually photograph. I wanted a FS RECIPE that stays close to reality while allowing everyday scenes to feel considered and intentional. I chose REALA ACE as the base because it already carried a sense of balance and restraint. It felt neutral without being \ufb02at, and calm without feeling detached. Rather than reshaping it into something else, I treated it as a foundation that could be gently re\ufb01ned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal was never to impose a look. It was to let light, colour, and texture behave naturally, especially in environments where nothing is exaggerated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shaping “CLOCKWISE ACE”<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The adjustments I made to REALA ACE were minimal and deliberate. Highlights were toned down and shadows lifted to soften overall contrast. This allows tones to transition more gently and keeps images from feeling tense or overly de\ufb01ned. Colour was restrained slightly so it remains present without overwhelming the frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because of this softer contrast, I normally compose my images about one third to two thirds of a stop brighter. That exposure approach works with the FS RECIPE, allowing mid tones and subtle colour to settle naturally while preserving detail across the image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“CLOCKWISE ACE” is not about adding character. It is about removing friction between what I see and how it is rendered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finding Attention in the Everyday<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I enjoy creating images that catch attention immediately. What makes them noticeable, however, is not spectacle, but where they come from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of the images I make are crafted by noticing small things in everyday life. A shift in light. A colour relationship. A moment that would normally pass without being acknowledged. They stand out because they exist within the mundane, not outside of it. Soft, di\ufb00used light plays a big role in that. It allows details to surface quietly and colours to relate to each other honestly. “CLOCKWISE ACE” supports this by staying responsive rather than dominant, present without overpowering the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A FS Recipe for Daily Carry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

“CLOCKWISE ACE” was built for daily use. soft days, window light, streets walked without a destination, interiors lived in rather than styled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It re\ufb02ects how I approach photography as a whole. Carrying a camera. Noticing what is already there. Appreciating light and colour precisely because they are not guaranteed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By staying close to REALA ACE and adjusting only what was necessary, this FS RECIPE became a tool that supports attention rather than replacing it. When the simulation fades into the background, what remains is the everyday scene, held carefully in soft light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
