One that smells of celluloid, gunpowder, and frozen time.<br>Since I was a child, Sergio Leone\u2019s cinema taught me how to look. His wide shots, his tense silences, his characters made of dust and scars. Especially \u201cThe Good, the Bad and the Ugly\u201d, with its stylized violence, its dry humor\u2014almost castellano, like myself\u2014and that final duel as a liturgy of the frame.<br>I returned to the place where that film\u2014and many others\u2014were shot : Tabernas, Almer\u00eda. To see if anything still lingered. Even just the echo. In the middle of July, in the desert, with no concessions. I brought only the new FUJIFILM X-E5 and the FUJINON XF23mmF2.8 R WR. A way of reclaiming the human in a world of artificial intelligence that smooths and perfects everything. As if the camera were an extension of the body. I used Velvia like someone playing an old song to remember.<br>Saturated colors, harsh contrasts, unapologetic intensity. With Velvia, I\u2019m not seeking truth, but its most exaggerated, wounded version. The world in Velvia looks like a movie set\u2026 but one that still breathes.<br>I walked the badlands and the false towns. The theme parks and the remnants of legendary shoots. And there it all was: the dust, the heat, the wind, the silence with a knife in it. The sets, half-defeated by the sun, still standing like old actors waiting for one last take. weloverwogen stijl van trouwfotografie<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Als FUJIFILM X-Photographer en medeoprichter van de bekroonde Nordica Photography en de Way Up North-conferentie voor trouwfotografie lijkt Cole Roberts misschien wel een natuurkracht in de fotografie. Toch begon het leven achter de camera voor hem als niet veel meer dan een verstandshuwelijk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn 2009 ben ik afgestudeerd aan de Universiteit van Ume\u00e5 met een masterdiploma in marketing,\u201d vertelt hij. \u201cToen ik terugkeerde naar Vancouver om werk te vinden, was ik te hoog opgeleid en had ik te weinig ervaring \u2013 de timing kon niet slechter. Ik kwam rond met parttimebanen toen mensen me begonnen te betalen voor portretfoto\u2019s. Cash in de hand, een paar foto&#8217;s maken, betaald worden. Het was zo eenvoudig dat ik er serieus mee aan de slag ging.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vele jaren, onderscheidingen en prijzen later behoort Cole tot &#8216;s werelds meest toonaangevende trouwfotografen, maar zijn ingetogen benadering van beeldvorming kenmerkt zich door een bepaalde bescheidenheid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIk voel me op mijn gemak met mijn sterke en zwakke punten,\u201d zegt hij. \u201cZorgen dat het er goed uitziet in de camera, niet doen alsof ik enorm creatief ben als ik dat niet ben, eerlijk blijven. Een fotograaf op de bruiloft, en niet in de hoedanigheid van trouwfotograaf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDat onderscheid was belangrijk, omdat trouwfotografie destijds veelal als stijlloos en ondergeschikt werk werd gezien. Zodra ik begreep dat ik het op mijn manier kon doen, vond ik mijn draai met mijn stijl.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Een cruciaal aspect voor deze stijl is Cole\u2019s voortdurende besef dat het zijn rol is om de dag vast te leggen, niet om zijn eigen ego te strelen. \u201cHet is overduidelijk van wie deze foto\u2019s zijn: van het bruidspaar\u201d, benadrukt hij. \u201cDe foto\u2019s gaan over hen en hun trouwdag. De bruiloft gaat niet over de foto\u2019s; de foto\u2019s gaan over de bruiloft. Dat verlies ik nooit uit het oog. Het idee om direct vanuit de camera perfecte JPEG&#8217;s te cre\u00ebren, heeft mijn kijk op beeldverhoudingen veranderd. Voordat ik de foto maak, bedenk ik me alvast hoe ik hem wil bijsnijden. Ik had fotografie nooit op die manier benaderd \u2013 het was altijd klikken, klaar en puntjes op de \u2018i\u2019 in de nabewerkingsfase. Nu vraag ik mezelf af wat ik echt als foto wil en doe het meteen goed, direct vanuit de camera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHet beeldverhoudingskeuzewiel en de vaste brandpuntsafstand wijzen beide op een andere functie: de digitale teleconverter\u201d, vervolgt hij. Deze functie is toegankelijk via een hendel aan de voorkant van de camera en stelt gebruikers in staat snel tussen brandpuntsafstanden van 35, 45, 63 en 80 mm te schakelen door in de sensor bij te snijden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIk dacht dat dit een trucje zou zijn voordat ik de camera gebruikte en twijfelde aan de kwaliteit van het resultaat\u201d, merkt Cole op. \u201cIk had ongelijk. Maar geen enkele kan tippen aan de bestanden van het GFX systeem. Als eender welke fotograaf \u2013 al dan niet een huwelijksfotograaf \u2013 het best mogelijke eindresultaat van zijn foto&#8217;s wil zien, dan is dat met deze camera. Albums en afdrukken zijn onge\u00ebvenaard met deze bestanden. Fotografen kunnen de hele dag over functies discussi\u00ebren, maar niemand betwist een afdruk van 100 cm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Er zijn echter wel enkele kanttekeningen bij Cole\u2019s aanbeveling van de GFX100RF. \u201cHoe snel werk je?\u201d vraagt hij. \u201cBen je een fotograaf die snel en spontaan te werk gaat en veel foto&#8217;s maakt? Zo ja, dan is dit niet de camera voor jou\u201d, raadt hij aan. \u201cMaar als je in een langzamer tempo werkt, bijna als een filmfotograaf, dan is dit de perfecte camera. De camera dwingt je om het rustiger aan te doen, waardoor je beter wordt. Ze merken dat ik ze niet hinder met een grote lens, maar dat is het zo ongeveer. De echte reactie komt weken later als ze de albums en afdrukken te zien krijgen. Dan sturen de stellen een e-mail en zeggen ze dingen als \u2018deze zien er anders uit dan de trouwfoto\u2019s van onze vrienden\u2019, zonder dat ze kunnen uitleggen waarom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDe details blijven bij elk formaat behouden. Dat is het verschil. This technique really shows off Velvia\u2019s contrast by dipping the SHADOWS to black in dynamic scenes, accentuating the colourful subject matter. And contrast, when used well, is not just a visual tool, it&#8217;s a way of narrating your own reality. That&#8217;s why I like to add a little more contrast to the ACROS+ R base. In my FS RECIPE, I apply +1 to the HIGHLIGHTS and SHADOWS. I like black and white photos to retain a certain memory of the red filter, so I give the ACROS a slight warm deviation. The harsh midday light becomes intense strokes. The shadows of a doorway become mysterious. The contrast provided by the red filter enhances every shot, every texture, and gives each photo a more powerful volume. Just look through the viewfinder, frame, and shoot. The photo is finished, and when you take the photos off the memory card, they are ready to be viewed, with no need for further adjustments. Personally, I like photos with a certain character. I don&#8217;t need perfection; I need them to convey feelings.
