The idea was to create a short fashion film, set within the breathtaking interiors of Eltham Palace, a British architectural landmark. When Fujifilm Europe came on board as a partner, it brought the project&#8217;s ambitions within reach \u2014 and, as it turned out, the timing could not have been better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHaving previously worked with Aisha on the Premista launch film, I knew firsthand the level of visual storytelling she brings to the table,\u201d says Marc Cattrall, Business Development Manager for Cinema at Fujifilm Europe. \u201cWhen she shared her initial concept, I saw more than just an incredible opportunity to support a feminist story that absolutely deserves to be told. Aisha didn\u2019t know it yet, but the timing was perfect. Our new GF19-35mm Power Zoom lens was just around the corner and I was eager to see exactly what it could do in a real-world environment. A stylised fashion shoot was the ultimate testing ground. It quickly became a collaboration that worked beautifully for everyone involved.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Story: A Mini-Revolt in Every Scene<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>MANNERS<\/em> is a film about femininity, autonomy, and the subtle rebellion of women navigating imposed social codes. Captured in a single day with a nimble crew, the film builds its tension through the contrast between a commanding voiceover and two women who simply refuse to obey it. Each scene is a composed, unhurried act of defiance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div><div class=\"block-video-player\"><div class=\"max-w-[800px] m-auto w-full relative fade-up-parallax\"><div class=\"block-video-player__splash-img aspect-w-16 aspect-h-9 js-btn--modal-youtube\" data-id=\"pg5sdJ6GCE8\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/MANNERS-YT-Thumb.jpg\" alt=\"MANNERS-YT-Thumb\" loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><span class=\"play-button \"><\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"modal modal--youtube hidden\" data-id=\"pg5sdJ6GCE8\"><div class=\"modal__content relative\"><button class=\"btn-modal-close\" data-id=\"pg5sdJ6GCE8\"><span><\/span><span><\/span><\/button><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><div id=\"player-pg5sdJ6GCE8\" data-id=\"pg5sdJ6GCE8\" class=\"youtube-iframe\"><\/div><\/div><\/figure><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;At its core, the narrative operates on a dual layer,&#8221; explains director Aisha Schliessler. &#8220;We have a stern, traditional narrator who dictates rules of propriety inspired by vintage etiquette, while two modern women silently yet confidently dismantle them through their actions. I envisioned this voice like a ghost of the past, living within the walls of the space, yet at the same time, it felt relevant, as women are still being haunted by dated social codes and expectations. Each scene acts as a mini-revolt, whether it&#8217;s a lingering gaze into the lens or relaxing in a bathtub, armed with a cigarette and opinions. Together, the vignettes build to a literal and symbolic shattering of the rules, showing in the most elegant fashion that some things are more powerful once broken.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Embracing the Space: Cinematography &amp; Lighting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Brighton-based Director of Photography Sy Turnbull joined the project, working closely with Aisha to translate an ambitious shoot into a single day on location. As Eltham Palace is a functioning museum, there were strict restrictions on how the space could be used, and every setup had to be carefully planned to make the day. The adaptability of the Fujifilm system proved essential to moving easily through the palace and delivering the film within their allotted time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div><div class=\"block-video-player\"><div class=\"max-w-[800px] m-auto w-full relative fade-up-parallax\"><div class=\"block-video-player__splash-img aspect-w-16 aspect-h-9 js-btn--modal-youtube\" data-id=\"ZDFIP6KHgbg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fujifilm-x.b-cdn.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/MANNERS-BTS-YT-Thumb_2.png\" alt=\"MANNERS-BTS-YT-Thumb_2\" loading=\"lazy\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\"\/><span class=\"play-button \"><\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"modal modal--youtube hidden\" data-id=\"ZDFIP6KHgbg\"><div class=\"modal__content relative\"><button class=\"btn-modal-close\" data-id=\"ZDFIP6KHgbg\"><span><\/span><span><\/span><\/button><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><div id=\"player-ZDFIP6KHgbg\" data-id=\"ZDFIP6KHgbg\" class=\"youtube-iframe\"><\/div><\/div><\/figure><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>To complement the 1930s Art Deco aesthetic of Eltham Palace, the production team chose a naturalistic lighting philosophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom a lighting perspective, we wanted to stay true to the space, but embrace the darkness,\u201d says DP Sy Turnbull. \u201cEvery light source has a naturalistic placement, keeping with the building and tone. The large sensor gives us that medium format photography look that we&#8217;re all accustomed to in fashion photography. So it&#8217;s the perfect aesthetic for this film.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Optics and Architecture: The Fujifilm GF Lens Lineup<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To capture both the expansive, grand scale of the palace ballroom and the intimate, subtle facial expressions of the performers, Sy relied entirely on Fujifilm&#8217;s native G-mount Medium Format optics paired with the GFX ETERNA 55.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The production utilized three distinct lenses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>GF32-90mmT3.5 PZ OIS WR<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>GF19-35mmT3.5 PZ OIS WR<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>GF120mm F4 Macro R LM OIS WR<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The combination of ultra-wide zooms and precise macro capabilities allowed the crew to move efficiently without sacrificing visual variety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat we really liked about the film was having these big open, expansive wides, but then also capturing the smaller details,\u201d notes Turnbull. \u201cWhat immediately stands out is just how compact and lightweight these zoom lenses are, yet they cover the full large sensor of the Fujifilm camera. Fine grain adds texture and a tangible quality, recalling real memories. Dat vertaalde zich heel natuurlijk in merkverhalen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoewel het vertellen van verhalen centraal blijft staan in het werk van Rebecca, brachten recente diagnoses van ADHD en autisme meer duidelijkheid over de onderwerpen waarop ze het meest gebrand was. \u201cIk ben sinds mijn diagnose er heel open over geweest en heb me daardoor meer gericht op onderwerpen die echt mijn speciale interesse hebben, dingen die mij echt inspireren. Terugkijkend omdat mijn diagnose zo laat in mijn leven kwam, realiseer ik me nu dat er altijd een echte rust over mij neerdaalt wanneer ik bij het water ben, en die vind ik nergens anders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEr zijn al die zintuiglijke verbindingen wanneer je aan zee bent, de geluiden, de geur, de texturen van het zand, het is op die manier echt meeslepend. Ik heb de schoonheid van de natuur altijd zo overweldigend gevonden dat ik het te veel vond om op dat moment te verwerken. Hoe kun je dit zien en niet onthouden? Hoe kan het dat er niets tastbaars overblijft of iets om aan over te houden? Met een groothoekobjectief zie je alles van wat er gebeurt, terwijl een teleobjectief meer intimiteit en verbinding met de ruimte geeft. Dat laat gewoon littekens achter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAls ik weet dat ik op reis veel ga fotograferen, neem ik bij voorkeur de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fujifilm-x.com\/nl-nl\/products\/lenses\/xf16mmf14-r-wr\/\">FUJINON XF16mmF1.4 R WR<\/a> mee voor groothoekopnamen, en daarnaast de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fujifilm-x.com\/nl-nl\/products\/lenses\/xf50-140mmf28-r-lm-ois-wr\/\">FUJINON XF50-140mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR<\/a> en de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fujifilm-x.com\/nl-nl\/products\/lenses\/xf150-600mmf56-8-r-lm-ois-wr\/\">XF150-600mmF5.6-8 R LM OIS WR<\/a>. Hoewel ik daarmee niet de allerlichtste bepakking heb, voelt het nog altijd licht in vergelijking met het DSLR-systeem dat ik enkele jaren geleden had. Ik vind dat een heel fijn objectief voor landschappen. Je kunt nog steeds overzichtsopnamen maken aan het uiteinde van de 50mm, maar je kunt vervolgens ook behoorlijk inzoomen als je meer details wilt vastleggen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDaarnaast heb ik ook het <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fujifilm-x.com\/nl-nl\/products\/lenses\/xf27mmf28-r-wr\/\">FUJINON XF27mm F2.8 R WR<\/a> platte pancake-objectief. Als ik gewoon een wandeling maak en het is niet per se voor werk, zet ik die er meestal op. Het biedt me de mogelijkheid om gedurende de dag prachtige, gevarieerde beelden vast te leggen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIk houd vooral van de verbinding tussen mensen, de locatie en de planeet. Ik vind het interessant om mensen te observeren en hoe ze omgaan met de omgeving van de zee. Hij is echt leuk om mee te werken en ik kan ermee het water in. Tenzij je een foto inzendt die op die manier is gemaakt, wordt deze anders niet in overweging genomen. Ik wil liever geen huizen, straatverlichting en rommel in mijn foto&#8217;s, dus dan zoom ik wat meer in. Op die manier kan ik nog steeds de sfeer en het gevoel oproepen van hoe het is om in die ruimte te zijn, maar zonder de ruis en afleidingen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIk vind wijdere landschappen soms een beetje saai. Iedereen heeft een mobiele telefoon en dat perspectief is altijd breed. Zo zien we miljarden beelden van plaatsen in zo\u2019n brede momentopname. Ik weet dat niet alle groothoekfoto&#8217;s zo zijn, en dat er veel planning en vooruitdenken aan vooraf kan gaan. Maar we zijn zo gewend om dingen op die manier te zien dat andere objectieven mensen dingen op een onbekende manier kunnen laten zien.\u201d\u201cI live in an urban area surrounded by nature. I don\u2019t really want all of the houses and streetlights and clutter in my photos, so that\u2019s where I step towards a slightly tighter zoom. De textuur die je in de lucht kunt krijgen, voelt vaak zo verbazingwekkend diffuus aan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIk wil het natuurlijke licht gebruiken, ik wil het vastleggen, zodat het voelt zoals het er uitzag toen het er was. Het daglicht lijkt gewoon iets langer rond te kaatsen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEr bestaat een soort aangeboren wijsheid die naar boven komt wanneer je een klik hebt met een bepaalde plek. Je beweegt mee met het ritme van de natuur en dat bepaalt hoe en wanneer je fotografeert. De manier waarop het licht in de loop van het jaar verandert, biedt nieuwe kansen die je beter leert herkennen. Rond het tijdstip van de winterzonnewende zie je in onze straat de zonsopgang bijna recht vanaf de zee. En, doordat we op het uiterste puntje van Kent wonen, zien we ook een paar weken per jaar de zon ondergaan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDat kan echt een gevoel van vrijheid geven omdat je daar op dat moment helemaal in op kunt gaan en kunt luisteren naar de seascape. Rather than pulling them back as I often do in my commercial work, where colour is kept clean and almost stock-like, I chose to embrace them. The green tones became part of the atmosphere, sitting softly in the background and almost forming a gentle halo around the scene. It gave the space a more airy, lived-in feel and allowed a more personal layer to come through. REALA ACE handled this beautifully, letting the greens shine without overwhelming the frame, while skin tones and food remained natural and grounded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another reason REALA ACE fits so naturally into the way I work is how effortlessly it responds to light. I often shoot with ambient and window light, where highlights appear and shift without warning. With REALA ACE, those moments never feel harsh or distracting. Light rolls through the frame gently, allowing the image to stay open and calm. It feels instinctive, almost like second nature. I don\u2019t have to think about how it will behave or how much I\u2019ll need to correct later. It lets me stay present, focused on what\u2019s happening in front of me rather than what might need fixing afterward. That familiarity creates an emotional connection to the way I shoot, where trust in colour and light becomes part of the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This project was a reminder of how powerful restraint can be. When colour and light are treated with care, images don\u2019t need to demand attention. They draw you in quietly, allowing small moments to hold their own. Director of Photography Flo Berwanger, BVK relied on a two-lens package covering everything from 19mm to 90mm to maintain momentum without sacrificing creative choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy having two lenses with overlapping focal lengths, we could easily change the framing of the shot with minimal lens changes.\u201d says Berwanger. \u201cThis helped us a lot on set to be very quick. The optics allowed the crew to drastically alter the emotional texture of a scene simply by adjusting the aperture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To make the character\u2019s high-fashion makeup and jewellery truly pop, Berwanger stopped the lens down to a crisp T8. Conversely, when a scene called for a softer, more vulnerable tone, opening the lens to T3.5 delivered a beautifully smooth focus fall-off toward the edges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The technical versatility of the system also allowed the team to experiment with formats and stylistic eras on the fly. While they chose the open-gate 4:3 GF mode for maximum flexibility, switching to a Super 35 crop allowed them to repurpose the 90mm focal length to capture unique perspectives while maintaining pristine image quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe knew we would have this shot of a tree, but we wanted to translate our image formula from a very modern perspective into a Y2K look,\u201d explains Berwanger. \u201cThe 19mm especially helped us get a very creative composition, turning the tree into more of a road our character could walk through.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What happens when the roaring crowd goes quiet, the house lights fade, and a global pop icon is left entirely alone with their own reflection?
