There are two types of negative film. Professional negative, which were high-quality emulsions stored and developed under controlled conditions, and consumer negative, which were used to record memories and make photographs for family photo albums. Consumer negative films were often left in the cameras for long periods of time, and colors were biased toward cyan-green in the shadows and magenta in the highlights. As a result, these photographs are characterized by hard contrast and color contrast.
A photograph made with CLASSIC Neg. is a memory of a day gone by, even if that day was only yesterday. The magic of aging improves the image, as if simulating the excitement of going to pick up your negatives after they have been developed. Colorful even in the midtones, with a look that feels both unbalanced and lo-fi, but nonetheless comforting to the viewer, this Film Simulation comes from the data and know-how cultivated from the analog film era.
Since it works well with grain and makes a strong impression no matter what you photograph, this Film Simulation is effective for snapshots of anything that catches your eye, even on full-auto setting. Even if there are variations across the locations and subjects, a photo album is essentially a collection of such snapshots. Gazing upon these photographs not only makes us recall the pleasure of picture making, but also the joy of looking back on memories.
