In analog film photography, it was common practice to make black & white photographs with an orange or red filter in front of the lens. By applying filters in digital photography, Film Simulations continue this practice to control the look of the image.
Because it has the weakest effect of all the contrast-enhancing filters, photographers used yellow filters widely during the film era. Not only do they darken skies, they also absorb green, which has a shorter wavelength, boosting contrast in situations where colors are similar – flowers in a field of green, for example. This effect works well in nature and street photography if you use it to harness the subtle gradations present in ACROS.
