Features Common to All X Series Cameras

The MENU OK button is used to access deeper levels of camera functionality beyond what is offered by function buttons, dials, and switches.

  • Named menu tabs are what you use to change capture settings. Press the left button on the Selector pad to scroll by tab (so you don’t have to scroll through every function to get to the next page), and press the right button on the Selector to access desired feature and MENU OK to select.
  • The wrench icon indicates SET UP and features settings including Power Management, Button/Dial Setting and Screen Set-Up. Choose DISP. CUSTOM SETTING from the SCREEN SET-UP menu to select what information shows on the EVF/LCD.

The DRIVE SETTING button gives you access to burst shooting, bracketing, single frame, Advanced Filters, and more. On the X-T100, Drive functions are set using down button of the Selector pad.

The photometry/metering setting determines how the camera meters exposure. On the X-T100, select it from SHOOTING MENU 4.

The white balance button allows you to select WB options that match your light source. You can also customize to create your own shade of white or select a specific kelvin value, which is a measure of the color temperature of light. The default setting for quick WB access is the right button on the Selector pad.

Use the View Mode button to change view from LCD to viewfinder only or EYE SENSOR + LCD IMAGE DISPLAY (for using both), which senses your eye at the viewfinder and instantly switches from LCD to EVF.

The DISP BACK button allows you to select how you’d like information displayed on the LCD and/or EVF. You can customize the information being displayed in SET UP > SCREEN SET-UP > DISP. CUSTOM SETTING.

Personalizing Your Camera

Many aspects of the X-T100 can be customized to suit your preferences, such as controls, displays, and shooting modes.

Fn Function Button and Touchscreen Swipes

The camera’s top-plate Fn button, Fn dial, and touchscreen swipe gestures can be customized to perform different tasks.

  • Press and hold the DISP BACK button to show the FUNCTION SETTING menu.
  • Select the control you wish to customize, then scroll down to select the required option. Press MENU OK to complete.

Customizing Viewfinder and Touchscreen Information

The information you see on the camera’s LCD screen and in its EVF can be changed so as much or as little data as desired is shown.

  • Press MENU OK, then press the timer symbol, and scroll down to the SET-UP menu tab. Press MENU OK.
  • Choose SCREEN SET-UP > IMAGE DISP. > DISP. CUSTOM SETTING.
  • Scroll through the list and choose the items you’d like to see in the viewfinder and on the camera’s screen by pressing the MENU OK button.
  • Press the DISP BACK button once you’re done.

Customizing the Q Menu

The Q Menu gives you information at a glance and quick access to camera settings. You can also change what’s on the Q Menu screen to suit your way of working.

  • Hold down the Q button for a couple of seconds; the customization screen will appear.
  • Choose the menu item location you want to customize and press MENU OK.
  • Find the function you’d like to appear in this menu location and press MENU OK.
  • Repeat the above steps for each menu location you want to change. Press DISP BACK to finish.

Customizing Film Simulation Modes

You’ve probably discovered your camera’s Film Simulation modes by now, but did you know you can modify these to suit your own tastes?

  • Press the Q button to display the Q Menu.
  • Adjust highlights, shadows, and color saturation with the H Tone, S Tone, and Color options using the sub-command dial.

TIP: One of the most important shortcuts to create is a button for PREVIEW EXP./WB IN MANUAL MODE. Access and turn ON to see live view and all setting changes for exposure and white balance; set to WB only for viewing white balance setting changes; turn off when shooting with strobes in a studio setting.

Focusing Modes

Focus Point Location and Size

The size of the active focusing area used by your X-T100 can be changed in size and moved around the frame. In the camera’s Q Menu, choose from Single Point (highly selective), Zone (for erratically moving subjects), and Wide/Tracking (uses the whole frame) using the sub-command dial (only available in P, A, S, and M shooting modes). To move the active point or zone, or change its size:

  • Press the AF function button once.
  • Use the selector buttons to move the focus point/area up, down, left, or right.
  • Rotate the sub-command dial to change the size of the focus point/area.
  • Press MENU OK or half press the shutter release button to confirm.

Making the Most of Manual Focus

When you’re focusing manually, the X-T100 offers all kinds of focusing aids to help you nail critical focus.

  • Put the camera in M focus mode by tapping the focus mode icon on the camera’s touchscreen (it will say AF-S or AF-C).
  • To select Focus Peaking, where the area in focus is highlighted in a color of your choice, press MENU OK, navigate to the fourth page of the shooting menu, and choose MF ASSIST. Then pick FOCUS PEAK HIGHLIGHT and select a color (only available in P, A, S, and M shooting modes).
  • To switch on Focus Check (where a central portion of the scene is magnified as soon as you turn the manual focus ring), press MENU OK, and scroll to the first page of the SET-UP menu. Choose SCREEN SET-UP, select FOCUS CHECK, and switch it to ON.

Switch on AF+MF from the SHOOTING MENU > AF/MF SETTING and you’ll be able to focus manually just by turning the lens focus barrel – no change of focus mode necessary

Super Selfies

You can shoot great selfies with your X-T100, and the camera’s Portrait Enhancer and Face Detection AF features will ensure you always look your best.

  • Pull out the camera’s touchscreen to the side so it faces the same direction as the lens; you’ll notice that the image is flipped, to help you compose more intuitively.
  • This automatically turns on Face and Eye Detection AF.
  • You can use all of the camera’s shooting modes when shooting selfies, but try Portrait Enhancer – it smooths skin textures and ensures you look your best.

Did you know that, when the X-T100 is in Selfie mode, you can press its sub-command dial to take a picture as if it were a shutter release? And when a power zoom lens is attached, you can rotate the sub-command dial to change focal length.

Shooting Video

Picking the Right Settings

The first thing to decide is which resolution and frame rate settings to use. You’ll find these options in the SHOOTING MENU > MOVIE SET-UP > MOVIE MODE menu.

  • 4K 2160/15P gives the best resolution and clarity on the X-T100 camera.
  • Full HD 1080 options still provide a good level of resolution, but at higher frame rates, which helps capture movement more fluidly.
  • HD 720 options offer less resolution, but files are smaller so you can fit more footage on your memory card.
  • When it comes to frame rate, 24p is fine for most normal applications. Footage shot at frame rates of 50p or 59.94p captures motion more smoothly.

High-Speed Shooting with 4K Video

The resolution of 4K video is large enough to generate still frames that can be used as eight-megapixel images and the X-T100’s 4K Burst mode (only available in P, A, S, and M shooting modes) makes this easy to do.

  • Press the Drive button and select 4K BURST from the on-screen menu.
  • Shoot normally by pressing the shutter release button.
  • When playing back the images, you can access frames within a burst by pressing the down button and save them out as separate JPEGs by hitting Q.

4K Multifocus Mode

Sometimes, when focusing on close-up objects for instance, it’s not possible to achieve enough depth-of-field in a single frame to get everything in focus. In this situation, 4K Multifocus mode is handy. The X-T100 captures 4K video footage while moving through its focus range, then merges the results together to give a single image that’s sharp from back to front (only available in P, A, S, and M shooting modes).

  • Press the Drive button and select MULTI FOCUS MODE from the on-screen menu.
  • Shoot normally by pressing the shutter release button.
  • After a short wait, the result is shown on the camera’s screen.

Connecting to Your Smart Device

Your X-T100 can communicate wirelessly with your smartphone or tablet computer via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, so you can transfer pictures to your device where they can be edited and shared with friends and followers online. You can also use your smart device to shoot remotely, control the camera, and even look at what the camera sees with remote live view.

Linking the Camera and Device Using Bluetooth

  • Install the free FUJIFILM Camera Remote app on your iOS or Android device.
  • Turn on the camera, press MENU OK, and navigate to the SET-UP menu. Choose CONNECTION SETTING > Bluetooth SETTINGS > PAIRING REGISTRATION. The camera will begin searching for your device.
  • In the FUJIFILM Camera Remote app, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing process. You may need to tap the Camera List menu in the top left of the screen if you already have another camera paired.

TIP: when setting up Connections for Bluetooth, consider whether or not you want the camera to transfer images EVERY TIME you turn it on. AUTO IMAGE TRANSFER can be turned ON or OFF as you desire.

Transferring Images to Your Device

  • Press the PLAY button, then press the Fn button on top of the camera.
  • Scroll through your images, pressing MENU OK to tag any for transfer.
  • When you’ve finished, hit DISP BACK. Image transfer should begin.
  • If your device is already connected to a Wi-Fi network, the app may ask to switch to the camera’s own Wi-Fi before transfer can begin.

Remote Shooting and Control

  • Launch the Camera Remote app from your smart device and tap the camera name to connect.
  • Tap the Live view shooting option to begin controlling the X-T100.
  • If your device is already connected to a Wi-Fi network, the app may ask to switch to the camera’s own Wi-Fi before remote shooting can begin.
