Every Street Has a Story
I bought my first Fujifilm camera in 2016, when I started taking photography seriously. It was a Fujifilm X70: compact, discreet, perfect for exploring the city with fresh eyes. Since then, Fujifilm has always been by my side. Over the years, I moved on to a X-T20, then a X-T4, and more recently the X-M5 joined my camera family. Shooting with the new X-E5 and the XF23mmF2.8 pancake lens made me feel the same thrill I felt in the early days.
My photography begins in the street
My approach to photography is deeply personal. I don’t shoot to collect beautiful images, but to connect with what surrounds me. I’m trained as an architect and passionate about cinema, and I believe that shapes the way I see things. I seek layering, atmosphere, and narrative. I teach street photography in Rome, and more than setting rules, I always encourage my students to build a personal and intentional way of looking at the world—one that can transform even the most ordinary scene into something poetic.
Street photography, for me, is a starting point, not a constraint. I leave space for instinct, but also for intuition and construction. Sometimes I observe from a distance, other times I engage with people. In any case, what interests me is the encounter—between elements, lights, stories, and possibilities.
With the Fujifilm X-E5, I rediscover lightness and freedom
When I walk around the city, I want to be invisible yet ready to catch every subtle shift. The Fujifilm X-E5, with its compact and discreet design, is ideal for those like me who seek spontaneity and control at the same time. The autofocus is lightning-fast: I can react in an instant to an unexpected scene, a gesture, an expression.
The new XF23mmF2.8 pancake lens was a surprise: lightweight, sharp, and perfect for my photographic vision. It allows me to move naturally, without distractions, without drawing attention. It almost feels like going back to the X70—but with all the power and quality of the latest generationand with the ability to change lenses.
Details make the difference
One of the features I appreciate most about the X-E5 is the crop lever: I can switch from 35mm to 50mm directly in-camera, without changing the lens or sacrificing image quality. It’s like having two lenses in one, allowing me to shift perspective intuitively and let my creative process flow.
The 40.2MP sensor is exceptional: every detail is sharp, even when cropping in post. And in difficult lighting conditions, it consistently delivers—handling both strong contrasts and subtle gradients with ease. Since I often work with shadows, reflections, and artificial light, this is an essential quality for me.
I don’t know what I’ll shoot tomorrow, but I want to enjoy every step
Street photography leaves much to chance, but not everything. I don’t need to know in advance what I’ll be looking for, or where my steps will take me. I just know that every street—even the most anonymous one—can hide a story. And that’s why I need tools that keep up with me, that don’t slow me down, that enhance—rather than hinder—my vision.
With the Fujifilm X-E5 and the FUJINON XF23mmF2.8 R WR, I feel like I have exactly that: the freedom to follow the flow, to embrace the unexpected, and to show my way of seeing the world—without compromise.
