IN PURSUIT FOR ULTIMATE COLOR AND TONE FOR MOTION PICTURE

The history of motion picture with FUJIFILM goes back to 1934, the year when FUJIFILM was established. Cinema film was the first product that FUJIFILM ever created

FUJIFILM continued to grow as a company with motion picture. It was our film that was used on Japan’s first movie in color. We pioneered the way to realize high sensitivity films, which were adopted on countless blockbuster hits around the globe. Our technical achievements have been recognized with the “Academy Award®*1 for scientific and technical achievement” and “Emmy award*2.”

Our cinema film continued to evolve in 21st century. The “ETERNA” series was introduced. The name is coined from the word “Eternal” in the hope that the film would contribute to create masterpieces that would be loved forever. The film was also designed with the rise of digital in mind.

“ETERNA” gained recognition from the motion picture industry with its unique characteristics. The film featured strong grain, gradual tone balance from highlight to shadow, distinctive black and white color reproduction and beautiful skin tonality. ETERNA, like our other films in the past, was honored with “Academy Award®*1 for scientific and technical achievement”.

In pursuit for success, we listened to the voice of cinematographers while developing “ETERNA”. The color balance was adjusted by adding more yellow and less blue to achieve the ultimate grey tone.

In 2007 “ETERNA Vivid” was introduced, which featured higher saturation and contrast. This film was also loved by many for its vivid and distinct expression that are often associated with FUJIFILM.

FUJINON – THE CHOICE OF PROFESSIONALS

The philosophy of FUJIFILM remains unchanged for both still photography and videography. Our fundamental belief is to let everyone to take beautiful images anytime anywhere. In 1960, FUJIFILM released 8mm movie camera “FUJICA 8 T3”, and in 1965 “Single-8” was released as home-movie cameras. The camera operation was very simple. All you had to do was to insert film magazine in the camera. It became the hot topic of the time and led to create the basis for “Home-movie culture”

With the demand from the consumers, the evolution of “Single-8” continued. Later models incorporated features such as “High magnification zoom”, “autofocus”, “high-speed shooting” and “fade-in / out”, overlapping technology which was a must for professional models. An interchangeable lens model was introduced and 16mm camera lens could also be attached. The camera was the one to have for all upcoming young film directors as it had features of professional models and they were able to brush up their skills.

Single-8 contributed to movie cultures in two ways. It popularized movie shooting to the masses, and it let aspiring young talents to build their foundation for movie making. At its core is the belief of “Capturing moments beautifully and eternally”. FUJIFILM created cameras that simply did that.

FUJINON – THE CHOICE OF PROFESSIONALS

“FUJINON” is a name that everyone in cinema and broadcast industry recognizes. Under the spirit of “Lens with high resolution and definition”, our first broadcast lens was introduced in 1964. The lenses are widely used from documentary to sports broadcast ever since. In 1983, broadcast lens with 44x magnification ratio, highest ratio at the time, was introduced. In 2015 world’s first 4K broadcast zoom lens was introduced. We have been honored with Emmy awards*1three times.

In 2001, FUJIFILM entered cinema lens market and in 2008, FUJIFILM introduced cinema lens for “Super 35mm”, which is a standard format for cinema industry. By 2016, the lens lineup has expanded to 9 zoom lenses ranging from the Premier “HK Series” to Cabrio “ZK Series” and “XK Series” with high operability. Prime lenses are primarily used to shoot cinema, but with our technologies that were nurtured through broadcast lenses allowed our lens performance comparable to that of prime lenses. FUJINON cine lenses are widely used for movies, commercials, and TV dramas. In 2017, FUJINON cine lenses also received the Emmy awards.

In the same year, “MK Series” was introduced, which is compatible with E-mount*3. It inherits the features of HK, ZK, and XK Series, and packed them all into small and lightweight body.

FUJINON cine lenses offer wide range of choices depending on the use or budget and they continue to capture images around the world as genuine lens for professionals.

FUJIFILM’s cinema heritage reinvented in digital format

From image, camera to optical design, FUJIFILM has all the technologies required to create movie production, which were nurtured through the course of 80+ years of history. The new era is here with the X Series. A higher level of expression can be achieved with ever advancing technology.

FILM SIMULATION “ETERNA”

A higher level of expression with the “X Series”

Film simulation “ETERNA” –A choice of professionals Change the color and tonal expression as if you were to change analog films. An unique film simulation specifically designed for movies, “ETERNA” is developed. The subtle color nuance and rich shadow tone are optimized for movies. Much loved “ETERNA” expression can now be reproduced in X Series. The film simulation is also incredibly easy to work with on post production allowing for professional grade completed work.

COMPACT AND LIGHTWEIGHT SYSTEM

“MKX lens” –Optimized for cinema recording

Camera system will not be a burden – camera is a tool to capture the moment With its unique APS-C sized “X-Trans CMOS sensor” and mirrorless mechanism, the X Series delivers high image quality even though the camera and lenses are compact and lightweight. Press the shutter and feel the difference.

The X System also has movie-oriented features such as Film simulation ETERNA, In-body image stabilization, bigger sized grip and high-speed shooting, which allow for broader range of expressions

MKX & XF LENSES

“MKX lens” –Optimized for cinema recording

Still photographic lens captures a moment while the cine lens captures sequence of motion. The lens designs are obviously different. Cine lenses have dedicated lens design to suppress focus shift, breathing, and optical axis shift to meet the demand of the professionals. Focus and zoom positions are independently operated for cine lenses. It is inevitably bigger and heavier than the still photographic lens. It is one of the reasons why the cine lens is relatively bigger and heavier than the still photographic lens.

“MKX Series” are cine lenses designed specifically for X Mount. The lenses are compact and lightweight even though it is optimized for movie shooting by utilizing the technologies cultivated in broadcast and cinema lens design. The lenses deliver razor sharp high resolution and beautiful bokeh with constant T stop throughout the zoom range. Users can also experience the same operation as that of the higher end models, as the mechanism is the same.
