PROVIA – Vivid Memories

Since 2013, I’ve been a big fan of Fujiilm Film Simulations. I remember when I first bought FUJIFILM X-E1 and started to play with it, I quickly found ASTIA, MONOCHROME and PROVIA. I played quite a lot between them, and it was a joy in itself. It felt like you could change the roll of film inside the camera after a few photos. Then change again and again. For me, that was a game-changer. Photography had already become my full-time job at that time, but Fujifilm made it fun again. Secondly, I was amazed at how the situation where I’m shooting can change significantly with just a few clicks. Since then, it’s been such a pleasure to see what Fujifilm have brought to the table.

Bring PROVIA to the dial

When you receive a new Fujifilm camera, you open the box, place the battery inside, and power it on. The first Film Simulation you see is PROVIA. On the camera, it’s labelled “STD,” but I think it should simply be called PROVIA. A name carries meaning, and this one deserves to stand on its own. Too often, I find myself switching quickly to other Film Simulations because I recognise their names from Fujifilm’s history. But PROVIA deserves more attention, and here’s why.

PROVIA, a Film Simulation that brings your memories to life again

I mostly use PROVIA when I’m shooting the most important photos to me. The photos that I want to remember, and I’m talking about my personal work here. See, PROVIA not only brings out the beautiful colours and tones, but it also helps me to remember the feeling that I had when I took the photo. It helps me to remember the small details and the authenticity of the scene, most honestly. If I’m hanging around with my family and friends or I’m on vacation, I want to remember how it was to be there again by looking through the photos. Or, to remember the love story when we were falling for each other by driving around on a warm evening, where we felt that nothing could stop us. If I can say, PROVIA is for the moments that I want to remember forever.

Art is around us

We live in a world where we can easily alter photos—either in-camera or in post-processing—and in doing so, we can change the entire concept of a scene. The mood, the feeling, the scene, and sometimes, we miss the beauty that is around us and use it most purely. These days, when we can make those changes easily, transparency becomes even more critical. I believe that art is a beautiful thing where we can express ourselves as creatives, but we may miss the shot because we don’t take the time to look. We run so fast to change the scene in our mind that we forget to be still for a moment and watch what is in front of us. Next time, if you’re not in a hurry, stop for a minute, be amazed and select PROVIA.

For everyday use

Like I wrote earlier, I use PROVIA as my everyday Film Simulation. When I go to school, work, or hang out with my friends. It’s easy and carefree. Next, Enjoy!
