When a new camera is released, attention naturally shifts to the next major interest: lenses.
To accompany the launch of the GFX ETERNA 55, Fujifilm developed the GF32–90mm T3.5 PZ OIS WR. This standard zoom lens supports large-format sensors and covers a focal range of 32–90mm (25–71mm in 35mm equivalent). It is also the first GF lens to feature a powered zoom.
This lens is built on a completely new concept. One of its defining characteristics is that, while inheriting the design philosophy of Fujinon’s PL-mount cinema lenses from the Premista series, all driving mechanisms are electronically controlled. Despite maintaining the operability, image quality, and cinematic refinement expected of a cinema lens, focus, zoom, and iris are all driven electronically by internal motors. As a result, when paired with the GFX ETERNA 55, the camera’s control dials can operate the lens’s focus, zoom, and iris, and autofocus is also supported.

The development concept was to make the operability feel close to Premista lenses. All operation rings—iris, zoom, and focus—use a 0.8M gear pitch, making them compatible with common accessories like follow-focus systems and lens motors. The zoom ring offers a smooth torque with a 90-degree rotation, while the focus ring rotates 200 degrees, matching the MK series. This ensures familiar operation for cinematographers and enables single-operator shooting. With advanced electronic control, the lens detects ring movements and moves the motors with virtually zero delay, resulting in a tactile experience similar to traditional mechanical lenses.
Its optical performance equals or surpasses the Premista series. Three aspherical lenses and three ED lenses are optimally positioned, and for the first time in an interchangeable lens, a 13-blade aperture has been adopted to create beautiful, smooth bokeh. By shifting the focus group from a front-focus to a rear-focus configuration, focus breathing has been significantly minimized. In addition, Nano GI Coating applied at strategic points helps suppress unwanted ghosting.

But the most remarkable feature is its size and weight: approximately 222 mm in length and about 2.1 kg. It is even more compact and lightweight than the Premista series. Leveraging Fujifilm’s long-cultivated lens manufacturing expertise, both spherical and aspherical elements have been made thinner to reduce weight. The lens also includes OIS, making it highly portable and easy to use even for single-operator shooting.
Fujifilm possesses unique lens technologies cultivated in the cinema industry. Combining optical performance and operability comparable to the Premista series with advanced electronic control capabilities is something only Fujifilm can achieve. This lens offers creators a wider range of possibilities—so we hope users will take it in hand and capture beautiful, fresh images with it.
